Instructions for Submitting Samples |

In order to assure that your results are as accurate as possible, proper sample collection, preservation, and handling is critical. Please read and follow the instructions below carefully.
Clients who wish to submit unpreserved samples must store samples in a cooler or refrigerator and deliver to Water's Edge Scientific LLC as soon as possible following collection (same day). Please call in advance if you are planning to submit unpreserved samples.
Samples must be collected in clean, watertight containers that are properly labeled and preserved using specified reagents only. Be sure to indicate on the label the preservative used. (Please refer to appropriate technical publications, such as APHA Standard Methods, for sample collection guidelines).
Dark bottles are preferable for algal samples.
Preserve all samples as soon as possible after collection. Store samples in a cool, dark location until shipment. Please use the preservatives indicated.
Preserve with Lugol's solution (IKI) to a final concentration of 1:100
Preserve with 70% ETOH. (If invertebrates are to be fixed in formalin for oligochaete identification, please exchange formalin with ethanol before submitting the sample to us.)
Preserve with 70% ETOH.
Secure bottle lids with tape to prevent leakage or evaporative loss. Pack samples securely in styrofoam, bubble wrap, or other packing media. Ship samples overnight using a reliable courier service. Water's Edge Scientific LLC will not be responsible for samples that are improperly preserved or arrive damaged.
